This also makes long range shooting easier. Other good aircraft are those with nose guns which have more per burst impact at a greater array of attack ranges then the wing guns which are harmonized for a specific intersection aiming point. Easier to control even for air combat and with enough firepower they are devastating against big bombers. I have found most stable gun platforms to be the 2 engined aircraft or strike planes - especially those with multiple guns and/or cannons. only if your a very good shot as it takes pin point precision to kill one. next would be cannons as a few hits will take one out, MGs puts you at a higher risk of return fire. The best way is to use aircraft with buckets of 100lb bombs. get low and knockout the low alt flak guns first (triangle targets) to avoid being high alt flak bait, or a flak sponge when your trying to strafe or rocket targets. As above, if its a fighter with a rear gun let him get behind you and use your rear guns. Even a nice rocket hit against bombers can be useful if your good enough at it. Hit them with crossing target deflection or frontal shots if possible and use cannons to drop them quicker. attacking planes with nasty rear gunners can get ugly quick. even the patrol craft will rip you apart. about as powerful as the 100-250lb bomb hits. Rockets are nice against buildings and ships though. use bombs, safer and a near miss will usually do the trick.
especially vs those Bf110s that also have rear guns that are tricky to kill from behind, let them get behind you and rip them up. but the turret on the Blenheim is nasty against enemy fighters (and ground targets as you pass over them). sure the Beaufighter is a kick (although the cannons fire off axis). but find the weak spots so they can do some damage -)ĭon't ignore the Blenheim.
